Giuseppe Bersani. Dove Medical Press. Conclusion: Patients at early stage of unilateral thalamic stroke showed both neurocognitive and social cognitive deficits. Identifying the predictors of good response to psychiatric and psychotherapeutic treatment may be useful for increasing treatment efficacy in neurotic patients. The objective of this study was to investigate the influence of hope, coping strategies, and dissociation on the treatment response of this group of patients.
Pharmacoresistant patients, who underwent a 6-week psychotherapeutic program, were enrolled in the study. Seventy-six patients completed the study.
Multiple regression was used to find out which factors were the most significant predictors of the therapeutic outcomes. The most important predictors of the treatment response were the overall levels of hope and dissociation.
According to our results, a group of patients with a primary neurotic disorder, who prefer the use of maladaptive coping strategies, feel hopelessness, and have tendencies to dissociate, showed poor response to treatment. Robert Bransfield. Ewa Ogłodek.
Aim: Alexithymia is associated with limited cognitive processing of emotions by an individual suffering from recurrent urticaria and alexithymia and makes them focus on somatic manifestations of emotional arousal and on poorly controlled compulsive reactions to negative stimulation.
Alexithymia is considered to be a personality trait, which, along with other factors, predisposes individuals toward developing somatic diseases. The aim of the study was to assess the measurement of alexithymic features in patients with recurrent urticaria and to assess the types of concurrent anxiety disorders and overall anxiety level. Alexithymic features were measured by means of a shortened version of the Toronto Alexithymia Scale, characterized by high discrimination power, internal coherence, and reliability.
This was observed in both males and females. Most frequently, the patients were found to suffer from generalized anxiety disorder and social phobia.
Conclusion: Alexithymia may result from the difficulty associated with expressing emotions caused by anxiety disorders. Undergoing treatment for anxiety disorders may contribute to reduced exacerbation of urticaria. Zeynep Okur Gueney. Roberta Di Giacomo. The historical meaning of the term psychosis was, however, broader, encompassing a disorganization of both consciousness and personality, including behavior abnormalities, such as impulsive overactivity and catatonia, in complete definitions by the International Classification of Diseases ICD and the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition DSM Our review is aimed at reminding that complex psychotic symptoms, including impulsive overactivity and somatoform disorders the last being a recent controversial entity in PD , were carefully described in postencephalitic parkinsonism PEP , many decades before dopaminergic treatment era, and are now described in other parkinsonisms than PD.
Eminent neuropsychiatrists of the past century speculated that studying psychosis in PEP might highlight its mechanisms in other conditions. Yet, f Nathan Ridout. Alberto Forte.

Furthermore, there have been no studies that have regarded this issue using the new diagnostic criteria for somatoform disorders as somatic symptoms and Department of Psychiatry, Faculty of Medicine, Bezmialem Vakif University, related disorders SSD.
In this study, we aimed to compare the factors of facial emotion recog- Istanbul, Turkey nition between patients with SSD and age- and sex-matched healthy controls HC and to retest and investigate the factors of facial emotion recognition using the new criteria for SSD.
Patients and methods: After applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, 54 patients who were diagnosed with SSD according to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition DSM-5 criteria and 46 age- and sex-matched HC were selected to participate in the present study. Facial emotion recognition, alexithymia, and the status of anxiety and depression were compared between the groups. After eliminating the effects of alexi- thymia and depressive and anxious states, the groups were found to be similar in terms of their responses to facial emotion and mean reaction time to facial emotions.
Discussion: Although there have been limited numbers of studies that have examined the recog- nition of facial emotion in patients with somatoform disorders, our study is the first to investigate facial recognition in patients with SSD diagnosed according to the DSM-5 criteria. Recognition of facial emotion was found to be disturbed in patients with SSD. However, our findings suggest that disturbances in facial recognition were significantly associated with alexithymia and the status of depression and anxiety, which is consistent with the previous studies.
Further studies are needed to highlight the associations between facial emotion recognition and SSD.
